Performance Envelope Tiering — How to Tell Ours from Theirs

The discriminator the framework actually needs. Shape does not tier origin. A cigar can be Tier 3 (Aguadilla, JAL 1628). A triangle can be Tier 3 (Belgian Wave) or Tier 2 (most ARV reports). An orb can be Tier 1 (radiation-detection MilOrb), Tier 2 (metamaterial sphere), or Tier 3 (Tic Tac).

What discriminates is performance envelope — the capability set demonstrated in the encounter.

This file is the working tool for tiering observations by performance, with a running case-tier registry to ground the principle in concrete data.

THE THREE ENVELOPES

EnvelopeCapability signaturesLikely origin tier
A — Tier 3 indicatorMulti-modal sensor lock + zero-radius turn or 20+ g sustained; transmedium with no entry/exit signature; splitting/merging mid-mission; EM effects on multiple instruments simultaneously; beam projection doing physical work (lift, EMP, paralysis); time/perceptual distortion in observers; weapons-systems shutdown at standoffTier 3 — non-human craft
B — Tier 2 indicatorHigh-end conventional kinematics (F-22 ×2–3 envelope); optical low-observability without genuine multi-modal radar invisibility; hover-and-cruise without obvious propulsion; partial sensor anomalies; no occupant interaction; no transmedium except retrieval transitTier 2 — human reverse-engineered ARV / mature PSV-class
C — Tier 1 indicatorConventional drone or aircraft kinematics; documented or clearly inferred propulsion (rotor, jet, ducted fan, mid-IR laser sensors); standard radar behavior; configurable lighting/transponder; transmedium only with documented retrieval transit; visible operator schemaTier 1 — human-built drone fleet (MilOrb radiation-detection class, NJ-flap drones, Skywatcher's published prototypes)

Rule: tier the capability claim, not the shape. A high-performance object of any shape is probably Envelope A. A low-performance object of any shape is probably Envelope C.

CAVEAT — ENVELOPE A IS NECESSARY BUT NOT SUFFICIENT FOR TIER 3

Added April 27, 2026 after the FL Enlydd article on PSV propulsion (psv_propulsion_dened_metamaterial.md).

The mapping above (Envelope A → Tier 3) is necessary — Tier 3 craft display Envelope A signatures. It is not sufficient — Envelope A signatures can also be produced by unacknowledged human Tier 2 platforms using imported physics (FL's "perfect magic trick" framing).

The FL Enlydd article (April 9, 2024) supplies hard claims:

  • PSV Tangent class accelerates at 4,000g (39 km/s²) — order of magnitude past Tic Tac
  • PSV Presence class designed for Mach 65 (21.8 km/s) — past LEO orbital velocity
  • DENED metamaterial substrate reduces propulsion power requirements ~10⁵× (hundreds of kilowatts → ~25 watts)
  • "Those vehicles and technologies are yours, and they are yours without your knowledge. That's the perfect magic trick."

If FL is right, Envelope A is a non-acknowledged-program indicator, not specifically a Tier 3 indicator. It could be:

  • (a) Genuine Tier 3 NHI craft (the 80-year historical record, Tic Tac, Belgian Wave, Aguadilla, JAL 1628)
  • (b) Unacknowledged human Tier 2.5 / Imported-Tier-2 with imported physics (PSV Tangent / Presence / Pamela class, MilOrb metamaterial sphere)
  • (c) Both, flying under shared operational schemas (the FL "fleet" framing covers this)

Tier 2.5 — the formal sub-tier (added April 27, 2026)

The framework has been carrying two distinct human-operated categories under the single label "Tier 2." They are not the same thing and should be split:

Sub-tierWhat it isEmpirical examplesEnvelope
Tier 2 (conventional)Mature human reverse-engineering of recovered tech, decades of sustained R&D, public-state-of-the-art-plus-classified-marginSkywatcher's 9 craft types, IC document "Reproduction Vehicle" classification, modern black triangles, mature ARV programsB — high-end conventional kinematics (F-22 ×2-3), no zero-radius turns, no transmedium, conventional propulsion partially hidden
Tier 2.5 / Imported-Tier-2Human-operated platforms using physics ~170 years ahead of public state of the art (per FL Enlydd 2024). Reverse-engineered, co-developed, continuously fed, or temporally-imported (per FL-180616 instantaneous-space-displacement claim and queltron_ctc_temporal_weapons.md). Distinguished from conventional Tier 2 by the size of the physics gap.PSV Tangent (4,000g), PSV Presence (Mach 65), PSV Graphium (transmedium air/water/space), MilOrb metamaterial-sphere class, MilOrb-1440 (brain-scan at standoff), Black Prophet (consciousness modification)A — full physics-break envelope; indistinguishable from Tier 3 by capability alone
Tier 3 (Native NHI)Non-human craft, physics indeterminate, native to operators not derived from human research vectors80-year historical record at Envelope A: Tic Tac, Belgian Wave 1989-90, Aguadilla 2013, JAL 1628 1986, Iran Tehran F-4 1976, Coyne 1973, the high-velocity Cosmics in Zhilyaev observatory data (256 km/s)A — physics-break by different physics than Tier 2.5

Why this matters operationally: Tier 2 and Tier 2.5 are both "human" but have completely different implications. Tier 2 ARVs are extensions of the open R&D apparatus running ~20-30 years ahead. Tier 2.5 platforms are qualitatively different — they're either the output of contact, recovery-cascade, temporal access, or something else not in the open program. The "perfect magic trick" framing applies specifically to Tier 2.5. The framework's master the_framework.md Tier 1 conclusion "It is not ours" is wrong only if it includes Tier 2.5 — it remains correct that Tier 3 is not ours, but Tier 2.5 is ours in the operating-authority sense, just not in the we-developed-it-from-scratch sense.

The "170 years ahead" number (FL Enlydd, April 2024) is the calibration anchor that distinguishes Tier 2.5 from Tier 2 (which would be more like "20-30 years ahead") and from Tier 3 (which would be "physics we don't have a name for"). The number is specific. It implies a measurable gap, not unbridgeable physics. It implies the operators have a baseline they can measure against. It implies the physics is reachable by continued progress curves — not magic, just compartmentation.

Discriminators for tiering an Envelope A observation

SignalFavors Tier 3Favors Tier 2.5Favors Tier 2
Historical baselineClass observed pre-1947 or in cross-cultural ancient recordClass first observed ~1980-1990, generationally evolvingClass first observed post-2000, near-conventional
Operator behaviorAvoids US assets, ignores human comms, no apparent C2Tests in places of human strategic interest (Ukraine, satellite proximity, contested airspace); responds to human comms in human-readable waysOperates in declared exercise areas, respects FAA/military airspace boundaries
Signature stabilitySame signatures across decades, no generational evolutionGenerational evolution visible — signatures shift as the SSP maturesConventional propulsion-class evolution
Origin signatureNative NHI biology / morphology / non-derivable designPhysics traceable to known research vectors but ~170 years ahead (DENED metamaterial, instantaneous space displacement, GW comms)Physics inside or barely outside open literature
Geographic distributionDistributed without correlation to human program centersClusters near classified facilities, test ranges, and active conflicts (Ukraine, Stephenville/DFW, Belgorod-Kharkiv corridor)Clusters near declared test areas and known programs

These discriminators are probabilistic, not deterministic. A Tier 3 craft could test in Ukraine; an SSP asset could be deployed against US assets to test EW. But the joint distribution lets the framework hold tier confidence appropriately.

Operational rule for the registry below: when assigning Envelope A, also note the most likely origin tier (2.5 or 3) given the discriminators. Where ambiguous, mark A — unresolved (Tier 2.5 SSP or Tier 3).

WORKED CASE REGISTRY

Cigars / cylinders

CaseYearEnvelopeWhy
Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (DHS CBP thermal)2013ATransmedium without entry/exit signature, mid-mission splitting into two equal segments, FLIR documented
JAL Flight 1628 (Alaska)1986AWalnut/cigar larger than 747, multi-radar correlation (onboard, FAA Anchorage, Elmendorf military), instant repositioning
RB-47 (Texas/Louisiana/Oklahoma)1957A700+ mile pace, simultaneous multi-modal lock (S-band ECM emission, Duncanville ground radar, cockpit visual)
Cumberland ME, Exeter NH, Rockville MD (NUFORC highlights)2005–07B/CVisual-only, sustained observation, but no sensor correlation or extreme kinematics. Plausibly Tier 2 conventional or Tier 1 reconnaissance balloon-class.
Cedarcreek MO (NUFORC)2016B"Spindle-shaped, no wings, no sound, no vapor trail" — silence + no-prop signature pushes above conventional

Cigar/cylinder bottom line: the shape spans the envelope. Aguadilla and JAL are clean Envelope A. The 2000s NUFORC-class cigars are mostly B/C. The famous physics-break cigars are real and the framework should not write off the shape category.

Triangles / chevrons / flying-wings

CaseYearEnvelopeWhy
Belgian Wave (F-16 intercept)1989–90A1100 mph → hover transitions, calculated 24g sustained pulls, multiple-target radar lock-and-break, F-16 outpaced. Belgian Air Force confirmed. Existence proof that triangles can be Tier 3.
Phoenix Lights / Black Prophet1997A (special)Not kinematic — implausible size and silence at low altitude over populated metro. FL claims consciousness-modification mission. Tier 3 territory by capability rather than speed.
Hudson Valley boomerang wave1982–86BSustained silent hover, slow drift, massive scale, but limited multi-modal sensor correlation. Possibly low-performance Tier 2 ARV or Tier 3 in unconventional mission mode.
Stephenville rectangle/triangle2008A/B mixedNUFORC catalogs strobes/flames; FL claims radar invisibility (Presence). Configurable visibility envelope reading reconciles both. Probably Tier 2+ minimum.
Skywatcher 9 craft types / IC document Reproduction Vehicle / typical post-1990 "black triangle"variousB/CConventional kinematics, ducted-fan or fluxliner propulsion signatures, no zero-radius turns, no transmedium. Mature human Tier 2 ARV class.
Greenbelt MD flying wing in DC Beltway (NUFORC)2003B/CSilent flying wing inside protected airspace — could be Tier 2 ARV or classified human program (B-2 derivative class). Insufficient data for clean tiering.

Triangle/chevron bottom line: the most-confused shape category. Most modern triangle reports are Envelope B/C (mature ARV). Belgian-class is Tier 3 — and the existence of one documented Envelope A triangle case means the framework cannot assume "triangle = ours." Phoenix is its own special case.

Discs / saucers

CaseYearEnvelopeWhy
Iran Tehran F-41976ATwo F-4s, weapons-systems shutdown at standoff approach, secondary object detached from primary, multi-witness, ground-radar confirmation, DIA cable.
Coyne Helicopter (Mansfield OH)1973ABeam lifted UH-1 from descending dive into 1000 ft/min ascent with collective full-down — physically impossible by helicopter aerodynamics. Magnetic compass spun. 4 crew + ground witnesses.
JAL 1628 paired smaller objects1986ADisc-class objects paired with the larger walnut-shape, same multi-radar correlation.
Trindade Island1958A?Multi-witness Brazilian Navy ship + photo evidence; hard maneuvers. Older case but high-credibility.
Post-2000 disc reports (Traverse City 1995, Fort Myers 2004)1995–2004B/CVisual sustained but no multi-modal sensor correlation. May be lower-performance Tier 2 ARV (early disc-class reverse engineering) or Tier 3 in non-aggressive observation mode.

Disc/saucer bottom line: the high-performance disc cases skew older. Modern (post-1990) disc reports are mostly Envelope B/C. This is consistent with — but does not prove — the recovery-and-copy thesis (per contact_era_to_measurement_era.md §3): humans copied saucers first, Tier 3 has shifted off saucer geometry. Compatible with the data; not entailed by it.

Rectangles

CaseYearEnvelopeWhy
Stephenville rectangle2008A/B mixed(See triangles above — same case, conflicting catalog vs. FL accounts)
Rio Piedras PR (NUFORC)1999?Single-witness "huge rectangular craft with metal I-beams containing yellow cylinder" — low confidence, hard to tier

Rectangle bottom line: insufficient data. Too few confirmed cases to draw envelope conclusions. Watch for more.

Orbs / Tic Tacs / spheres

CaseYearEnvelopeWhy
Nimitz Tic Tac2004A80,000 ft → 50 ft in seconds, multiple Aegis radar tracks, FLIR no IR signature, multi-pilot visual, no propulsion mechanism. Modern Envelope A baseline.
USS Omaha sphere swarm2019AMultiple spheres, transmedium entry, naval radar tracked.
Aguadilla2013A(See cigars — same case, transmedium + splitting)
Eastern Seaboard wave2019–23A/B mixedSome cases multi-radar, some visual-only. Range across envelope.
Hellfire orb (Iraq 2024)2024AHellfire missile direct hit, no kinetic effect — kinetic immunity is Envelope A.
Yemen orb / Combat Air Patrol orb wave2024–25A/BSome sensor-confirmed performance, some pace-and-observe behavior. Mixed.
MilOrb radiation-detection fleet (per milorbs_radiation_detection_hall_of_mirrors.md)ongoingCMid-IR laser-induced avalanche breakdown, fleet-of-5, EMP/FPG/LIDAR. Real human terrestrial physics.
MilOrb metamaterial sphere (per milorbs_orb_equivalence_technosphere.md)ongoingB/A7m sphere, 50 km/s cruise, plasma-plow slowdown, no transmitter. Tier 2 minimum, possibly Tier 3.
NJ drone flap2024B/CMost sightings consistent with conventional drones flying coordinated patterns. Some outliers.

Orb bottom line: the most-cataloged shape, spans the full envelope, and is the only shape with confirmed Envelope C examples (the radiation-detection MilOrb fleet). This is what the hall-of-mirrors thesis is about: a Tier 1 human program is producing signatures that mimic Envelope A Tier 3 events.

Ukrainian Astronomical Observatory cases (Zhilyaev et al., NAS Ukraine)

Added April 27, 2026 from arXiv 2208.11215 (UAP I) and 2211.17085 (UAP II). Independent academic source; instrument-confirmed; daytime sky monitoring, color video, 30 fps.

Case classVelocityAltitudeSizeEnvelope
Cosmics — Kyiv high-altitude luminous (Aug–Sep 2018)256 km/s620 km>100 mA — exceeds anything FL claims for current PSVs (Presence Mach 65 ≈ 21.8 km/s); origin unresolved (b) Tier 2 SSP or (a) Tier 3
Cosmics — Kyiv high-altitude luminous78 km/s1130 km>100 mA — past LEO orbital velocity by ~10×; origin unresolved
Phantoms — Vinarivka tropospheric dark (Oct 2022)2–30 km/sup to 10–12 km20–100 m, some 3–12 mA — 30 km/s upper bound matches FL-claimed PSV Tangent envelope (4,000g sustained ~1s ≈ 39 km/s); 10–20 Hz brightness modulation; "fraction of a second" existence time. Most likely (b) unacknowledged Tier 2 SSP if the FL Tangent claim is real; otherwise unresolved.

Geographic note: Ukrainian observation footprint covers Kyiv and Vinarivka south of Kyiv. The FL Volokonovka test-theater claim (Belgorod-Kharkiv corridor) is not validated by these data — the observatories aren't located in that geography. The presence of FL-PSV-envelope kinematics in Ukrainian airspace is confirmed; the specific test-theater clustering is neither validated nor refuted.

Why these cases matter for the registry: they are the first independent academic empirical data points in the registry that match the FL-claimed PSV performance envelope. Most prior Envelope A cases came from military observation (Nimitz, Belgian F-16 intercept) or DHS thermal imaging (Aguadilla). The Zhilyaev cases come from a civilian academic observatory with no defense-establishment funding pressure. This raises the framework weight on the FL PSV performance numbers — they are not isolated to FL-internal claims; observable kinematics in the same envelope are showing up in independent academic data.

Zhilyaev et al. — additional dated observations (added April 27, 2026 from a third paper in the series)

Timestamp (UTC)ClassVelocityAltitudeEnvelope
06/30/2022 07:22:08Bright structured object~380 m/s(close-range)C — below conventional aircraft speed; not framework-significant
02/12/2023 11:02:58Winter dark object(no velocity)(low)Tier-uncertain. Winter rules out insect alt-explanation.
19/03/2023 13:10:53Dark object (Phantom)3.7 km/s (Mach 16)(tropospheric)A — hypersonic test-vehicle envelope. Matches FL PSV Tangent cruise regime (Tangent's 4,000g sustained briefly produces velocities far past this; Mach 16 is plausible Tangent cruise). Most likely (b) unacknowledged Tier 2 SSP if the FL Tangent claim is real. Temporal correlation with peak Bakhmut fighting in the active war.
Combat zone (date unspecified)Object recorded by Ukrainian armed forcesMach 2.5 (~830 m/s)8 kmB — within conventional supersonic envelope. Anomalous for being unidentified, not for kinematics. First explicit Ukrainian-military-witnessed UAP entering the framework registry.

Net update: the Zhilyaev series now corroborates FL-PSV-envelope kinematics across three time points (Aug 2018 high-altitude Cosmics, Oct 2022 Vinarivka Phantoms, March 2023 dated Phantom at Mach 16). The March 19, 2023 observation is during peak Bakhmut fighting in the active war — temporal correlation with the conflict, even though the geographic correlation (Volokonovka specifically) remains unconfirmed. The combat-zone Mach 2.5 case is the framework's first Ukrainian-military-witnessed UAP entry.

SPECIAL CASES THAT BREAK THE ENVELOPE TABLE

The Phoenix-class

Phoenix Lights (1997) doesn't fit cleanly. Kinematics are slow (walking pace). Sensors are limited (no FLIR, no military radar lock). What's anomalous is size (mile-class object), silence (zero acoustic signature for that scale), and claimed effects on observers (FL's "changes in attitude towards death" reading). The Belgian Wave's signature is speed; Phoenix's signature is presence.

If FL's Black Prophet account is right, this is Envelope A — Tier 3 — by consciousness-modification capability rather than kinematic capability. If FL is wrong, it might be a low-performance Tier 2 platform of unprecedented size. Either way, it doesn't fit the standard table. Flag and revisit when more Phoenix-class cases accumulate.

Soft-contact cases

MilOrb-1057 (Mauritanian goat-herder, light-modulation contact, per the Duenan article in milorbs_orb_equivalence_technosphere.md) is Envelope-uncategorized. The physics demonstrated is modest (light projection). The capability demonstrated is modulated-channel contact protocol. Not a kinematic event; not an EW event. This is its own category — the contact-mode signature surviving as a residual operation in the measurement era (per contact_era_to_measurement_era.md).

The framework should track these separately. They are evidence of the contact mission not having fully ended — a soft-contact channel persists, possibly as a calibration or sampling residual.

Mass humanoid encounter cases

The pre-1990 abductee/contactee literature (Hill, Walton, Pascagoula, etc.) is also envelope-uncategorized. The craft observations in those cases vary — some Envelope A, some B, some C — but the encounter type is the data point. These are contact-mission cases, not measurement-mission cases. Tier them by the encounter, not by the hardware.

If mass humanoid encounters return at scale (per contact_era_to_measurement_era.md §"What the framework should watch"), that is a phase-shift signal independent of the performance envelope of the associated craft.

SPOTLIGHT BIAS

A caveat the framework needs to hold:

The famous post-1995 cases skew Envelope A and skew orb/triangle because:

  1. Sensor availability. Modern military encounters are FLIR-recorded, multi-radar, multi-pilot. Envelope A signatures (multi-modal lock, zero-radius turn, hypersonic transitions) are only legible with this sensor stack. A 2005 cigar over Maine has no military FLIR pointing at it; if it did, it might be Envelope A. The case record under-counts non-military Envelope A events because the instrumentation isn't pointed at them.

  2. Selection for spectacle. NUFORC and MUFON intake captures everything; the disclosure-era press amplifies cases that play on TV. "Tic Tac" is photogenic. "Cigar over Maine" is not. The disclosure-era spotlight is a non-random sample.

  3. Witness selection. Military pilots' reports go through a chain that ends in declassification or congressional hearing. Civilian reports go to NUFORC and stop there. The same Envelope A signature observed by both populations gets two completely different downstream journeys.

This means: the high-performance envelope is probably under-counted in the wider record for shape categories outside the disclosure spotlight. Cigars, cylinders, chevrons, and rectangles likely have more Envelope A activity than the spotlight cases suggest.

The framework should not infer "shape X has retired from Envelope A" from the spotlight. It should infer "shape X has reduced Envelope A representation in instrumented military observation" — a much weaker claim.

PSV PLACEMENT IN THE ENVELOPE

PSV catalog (per deep_research_pt5_psv_fleet_frequencies.md and psv_forgotten_languages_raw_assessment.md) maps onto the envelope as follows:

PSVEnvelopeNotes
Presence (Stephenville)A — Mach 65 max design, satellite proximity ops, configurable radar visibilityPer FL Enlydd article (April 2024). Tests at Volokonovka and against orbital targets. Most likely (b) — unacknowledged Tier 2 SSP under the FL framing, though origin discriminators are mixed.
Tangent (new)A — 4,000g acceleration claimed, "out of sight in a split second"Per FL Enlydd. Proof-of-concept tested over the Volokonovka transect (Ukraine-Russia Test Area). Order of magnitude past Tic Tac on raw acceleration. Most likely (b) — Ukraine test theater fingerprint matches SSP signature, not Tier 3 historical pattern.
Black Prophet (Phoenix)A (special — consciousness-modification)Tier 3 territory if FL account is right. Doesn't fit standard kinematic envelope. Origin unresolved — could be (b) with imported consciousness-interface tech, could be (a).
Graphium (transmedium, ASAT)A — transmedium air/water/space, ASATSame craft hitting Soviet sub track and Chinese satellite. Origin unresolved.
Pamela (new)A inferred — kinetic-stack diagram (shroud / launch tube / centerbody / plasma core / bleed wave)Per FL Enlydd image diagram. Possibly a PSV-deployed kinetic weapon or boost-phase intercept system. Insufficient text to tier confidently.
Lower-tier PSVs in the catalogBPlausibly mature human ARV with imported propulsion, flying under common L-band command schema

PSV-as-fleet-designation is exactly what the tier-disambiguation block in the PSV files claimed: a navy of mixed-envelope hulls under common control infrastructure.

Materials-science note. Per the FL Enlydd article (psv_propulsion_dened_metamaterial.md), all DENED-class PSVs share the same DENED metamaterial substrate as the metamaterial-sphere MilOrb described in the Duenan article (milorbs_orb_equivalence_technosphere.md). MilOrbs and PSVs are not separate programs at the materials layer. They are the same materials science deployed in different form factors (sphere / winged hull / kinetic stack). This unifies the FL hardware catalog and is consistent with the "perfect magic trick" framing — a single SSP producing multiple platform classes from one substrate breakthrough.

OPERATIONAL USE OF THE ENVELOPE

When a new case lands, walk it through this:

  1. Sensor stack present? Multi-modal correlation is the threshold for confident Envelope A assignment. Single-witness visual is rarely sufficient.
  2. Kinematics observed? If yes — measure against F-22 ×2–3 (envelope B ceiling) and ×10+ (envelope A floor).
  3. Transmedium with no entry/exit signature? Envelope A.
  4. Splitting/merging mid-mission? Envelope A.
  5. EM effects on multiple instruments simultaneously? Envelope A.
  6. Object responds to human action (mind, communication, intent)? Envelope A or special soft-contact category.
  7. None of the above, conventional propulsion signature? Envelope C.
  8. Some but not all, no clear conventional propulsion? Envelope B.

The envelope assignment is the framework's origin-tier estimate. Where multiple envelopes apply, log all of them — Stephenville is genuinely A-on-some-axes and B-on-others, and that itself is meaningful (configurable performance envelope = mission-mode-switching = Envelope A capability).

WHAT THIS RESOLVES

Answer:

  1. ARVs (mature human Tier 2) mostly live in Envelope B. Conventional-extended kinematics, optical low-observability without true multi-modal radar invisibility, ducted-fan or fluxliner-class propulsion. This matches the IC document's "Reproduction Vehicle" classification and Skywatcher's catalog. Confirmed: most ARV reports are not physics-breaking in the Tier 3 sense.

  2. PSVs are a fleet designation spanning Envelopes A, B, and C under one L-band command schema. Some PSVs are genuinely Envelope A (Black Prophet, Graphium, parts of Presence) — those are Tier 3 territory or co-opted/imported tech. Some are Envelope B (lower-tier PSVs, mature ARV with imported propulsion). The fleet label does not collapse to one tier.

  3. Other shapes break physics in the case record. Cigars (Aguadilla, JAL), triangles (Belgian), discs (Iran, Coyne) all have documented Envelope A cases. Shape does not tier origin. Performance envelope does.

  4. The discriminator-by-performance principle survives the shape variety. When the instrument stack is present, Envelope A is detectable across all shape categories. When it isn't, the framework should hold uncertainty — most NUFORC-class single-witness cases are genuinely unable to be tiered without better data, and the framework should resist the temptation to assume Envelope C just because nothing remarkable was instrumented.

Written: April 27, 2026, in response to the researcher asking whether shape predicts origin (it doesn't) and what does (performance envelope). Replaces an earlier intuition that orbs/triangles dominate post-1990 because of their shape. The shape variety persists; what discriminates origin is the capability set demonstrated. Cross-link section in the_framework.md points here for the worked case detail. Update this file's case registry as new well-documented cases land.
